3 teens charged with breaking into Killeen home
killeen, tx — UPDATE: This case was reviewed by the Bell County District Attorney’s Office and complaints were returned charging Reginald Tyrone Mathis Jr., Samuel DelVonte Green and Michael Nikyllus Hayes, each with Burglary of a Habitation. Justice of the Peace Bill Cooke set their bond at $50,000 each; Mathis was also charged with Evading Arrest and received a $5,000 bond for that charge. They will be transferred to the Bell County Jail later today.
ORIGINAL REPORT: Killeen Police arrested three teens who were caught breaking into a residence on Zinnia Dr. today, July 17, 2012.
An officer was patrolling in the 2200 block of Daisy Dr. when he was flagged down by a male who saw a suspicious vehicle, a brown Dodge Durango with TX license plates, in the 200 block of Margarita Dr. , the vehicle was occupied by three black males who were acting suspicious in the neighborhood. The officer checked the area and found the vehicle had moved to the 2400 block of Daisy Dr., he saw the vehicle parked and it appeared to be empty but when he approached it he could see a black male in the driver’s seat that was fully reclined. He also smelled an odor that is commonly associated with burnt Marijuana. The officer began to speak with the driver and was told he brought his friend over to see his girlfriend at a residence in the 100 block of Zinnia Dr. Other officers began to approach the residence when an 18 year old black male exited the residence and began running and the officers gave chase; he was subsequently arrested in the 200 block of Dahlia Ct. Another 18 year old black male exited out of the back of the residence; he was arrested minutes later in the 2400 block of Buttercup Circle. The 18 year old male in the vehicle was detained and later arrested as well.
As officers investigated this incident it was discovered the males were involved in burglarizing the residence in the 100 block of Zinnia Dr. and they were transported to the Killeen City Jail.
