The banks of the Brazos River will be filled with boats and jet skis for the annual Duel on the Brazos boat Race.

Over 100 boats are expected to race their way down the river reaching up to speeds of a 180 mph.

"Some of the flat bottom boats can range run up to 158-168 mph. The hydro boats can go as fast as 178-180 mph" Said Southern Drag Boat Association President, Randy Ball.

Today drivers got to test and tune their boats to get them ready for tomorrows qualifying rounds.
During tomorrows round each driver will get 3 runs down the river.

"We are racers and we want to win but the main thing we are shooting for this weekend is we want everyone to have a great time." Said Ball

The event is sanctioned by the Southern Drag Boat Association and is one of the longest running drag race organizations in the country.

"This is the most fun you can have with your clothes on. There's nothing like being on the water and running a hundred miles-an-hour and faster." - Said Gary Payne

The winner of the race will receive about $2,000 but many drivers don't race in this event for the money.

Time & Place:
Brazos Park East beginning Friday, May 23rd thru Sunday May 25th daily from 8-5 p.m.
