Army announces new commander for Fort Bliss, 1st Armored Division

Maj. Gen. Dana J.H. Pittard will soon be replaced as commander of Fort Bliss and the 1st Armored Division, according to Army spokesperson Maj. Joe Buccino.

Pittard's replacement will be Maj. Gen. Sean B. MacFarland effective May 2013. He has held multiple roles as Deputy Chief of Staff, Operations, International Security Assistance Force, Operation Enduring Freedom, Afghanistan to Commanding General, 1st Armored Division and Fort Bliss, Fort Bliss, Texas.

The announcement comes almost three years after Pittard's summer 2010 assignment to Fort Bliss and the 1st Armored Division. He was the first El Pasoan to command Fort Bliss, 1st Armored Division. Pittard will be headed to Washington D.C. to serve as the Army's Deputy G-3/5/7, which is the operations and planning division for the entire U.S. Army.
