EL PASO, TX (KTSM) — The Army community at Fort Bliss and across the country is standing as one family and donating to an El Paso woman, who was attacked and stabbed by an intruder in her northeast El Paso home last week.
Thirty-one year old Rachel Poole is recovering in the hospital after an unforgettable attack.
"She's a fighter, she's trying, she's not going to give up. I know she's not," said Angela Gooden, a close friend of Rachel.
Rachel was allegedly attacked and stabbed by 19 year old Corey Moss, a Fort Bliss soldier. Police say Moss' motive was that he owed Rachel money.
"Honestly, she didn't deserve it," said Gooden.
According to police, Rachel was Facetiming with her husband Jason, also a soldier and deployed abroad, when Moss allegedly came up from behind and stabbed her. She was nine months pregnant.
"It's important to stand as a military family and to collect donations to try and help them out as much as we possibly can," said Amber Byars.
Rachel gave birth to a healthy baby girl named "Izzie" on Friday afternoon while several Army wives from Fort Nliss were hard at work collecting donations for the baby. Many of them said they haven't even met the victim of her family.
"This is a family torn apart. Nothing we collect here is ever going to replace what happened to her," said Terri.
"What she went through, what had happened, to me, she is my hero," said Gooden.
Rachel's close friend Angela helped organize the fundraiser and spent most of her Saturday afternoon in the parking lot of a Walgreens store in east El Paso, collecting donations for her friend's baby.
Members of the community stopped by with diapers, wipes, baby food, and more to try and lend a helping hand.
"You got to think of it as like if you were in that situation, wouldn't you want the help just as much as they'd want the help?" said Byars.
If you'd like to donate to the Poole family, you can drop off non-perishable iteams or baby supplies to her friend Angela's home at 3408 Blue Earth Lane, Apartment A.
