Authorities catch Smoker's World robbers

Killeen Police responded to a 911 call on Saturday, August 25, 2012 at 1:19pm, stating that the Smoker’s World located at 3301 E. Rancier had just been robbed. Officers arrived and were told that a white male and a black male, both who appeared to be in their 40’s or 50’s, entered the store and demanded money and cigarettes from the attendant; the white male made threats to the attendant as he kept one hand inside his bag, but never displayed a weapon, while the black male took numerous cigarettes from the business. The two suspects fled from the store on foot. The white male was wearing a tan shirt and a yellowish colored hat and the black male was balding and had facial hair; he was wearing a blue tee shirt and black sweatpants.

The officer at the scene relayed the suspect description to other officers who were searching the area when one officer located the white male on 42nd St near Lake Ann Dr and another officer located the black male suspect in the area of 38th St. and Lake Rd. Through the investigation it was determined that both suspects were involved in this robbery and were taken into custody.

This case was reviewed by the Bell County District Attorney’s Office and a complaint was returned charging 38 year old Roderick Bruce Beard and 48 year old Thomas Michael Armstrong Jr. each with Robbery. Justice of the Peace Garland Potvin set their bond at $100,000; they are currently in the Bell County Jail.
