Baylor Scott & White is just three days away from introducing a brand new way for patients and doctors to collaborate.

The EpicCare Link is a web-based application that keeps all patients healthcare records in an easy to use database.

Officials say the real-time access to the information from doctors across their system in Central Texas will improve not only the quality of care, but accuracy as well.

For patients, the web portal will allow them to schedule appointments, request prescription refills and be given more communication access to nurses and doctors.

The program also unifies billing and records systems of all departments within the healthcare system.

Dr. Jeana O'Brien, Chief Medical Information Officer at Baylor Scott & White, said the program will be unveiled this weekend.

“First off, none of the history a patient has here at Scott & White will be lost," explained O'Brien.

"We still have all of those records. Secondly, they should be able to know that they will be able to play a larger role in their care by having the information at their fingertips. “

Nurses were training on the program today and have been for the past three months.
