He was a man who dedicate his whole life to public service.

63-year-old Ronnie Jackson has worked for the city of Bryan as the Neighborhood/Youth Services Director. Before that he worked for Bryan ISD.

"It all ties back to the Jefferson Award," said Deputy City Manager, Hugh Walker. "That's only given to special folks, those that are really out in the community and care about the community, and that was certainly Ronnie Jackson. He left a huge mark, not just with the city of Bryan but Bryan-College Station as a whole."

Sadly Jackson passed away Tuesday morning after a year and a half long battle with Stage IV lung cancer.

It's a loss not just for the city but the entire community as well.

"He was one of the kindest, gentlest, most caring and compassionate persons you will ever meet."

Walker, a colleague and close friend , says Jackson was a behind-the-scenes leader that many may not know but without his service, the community wouldn't be where it is today.

"Frankly, I'm not sure that you find someone with his passion, with his knowledge, with his connections and inter-workings with other organizations that could come in and do what he did. He was one of a kind, absolutely one of a kind."

A man that will be greatly missed by all.

Funeral services for Jackson will be held at Christ United Methodist Church in College Station this Friday at 2:00 P.M..
