Bell County Sheriff investing friend's death

The Bell County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death of an elderly man in Killeen as a homicide.

On Saturday morning at 6:09 a.m., deputies arrived at a house at 17635 FM 439 to see Jack B. Ray, 83, lifeless in his backyard just east of Killeen.

Bell County Justice of the Peace Bill Cooke ordered the body to be taken to the Southwest Institute of Forensic Science in Dallas for an autopsy.

The deputies on scene also noticed that his house had been ransacked.

In a press release, the department said Ray was a good friend of Sheriff Eddy Lange, who is investigating alongside the Texas Rangers.
