Belton, TX — It has been a long process, but it seems as if the city of Belton has finally found a road to honor Martin Luther King with.
A couple of streets were proposed, but ultimately denied over the past year.
But a response period closed to a submitted petition on Friday to allow Ninth Avenue in central Belton to become MLK Avenue.
19 property owners along the road voted in favor of the change with only three similar residents against the motion.
The 86% met the 70% threshold needed for change, but the process isn’t done yet.
Belton City Council could formally vote on the issue in its meeting on October 22.
