Blinn College Expansion faces community opposition

Bryan, Texas (KWKT) — Blinn College's board of trustees are reconsidering the multimillion dollar expansion into College Station.
In May, the board approved the $24.5 million dollar purchase of the Lynntech building and the surrounding 53 acres .
Tuesday, homeowners from Carter’s Cove, Raintree, and other nearby neighborhoods presented the board with a petition of over 400 signatures from people who do not want Blinn to purchase the Lynntech property.
Blinn spokesman Richard Bray said, “This is a historic decision not only for Blinn College but for this community, the Bryan/College Station community, and so we want to take the time to consider all the input we received."
The board has been lobbied by the city to choose 50 acres close to Rudder High School. A final decision has not been made on the campus expansion yet, but the Blinn College board of trustees will hold another meeting later this month to reconsider where to locate a new Blinn campus. The meeting will be open for public comments.
