Body found in Temple residence

On Thursday, around 7:20 p.m., the Temple Police Department received a report of a body in the 3100 block of Monroe Avenue.

When authorities arrived on scene, they found Russell Hamby, 50, dead in his home.

Justice of the Peace David Barfield pronounced Hamby dead and ordered an autopsy be performed at the Southwest Institute of Forensic Science.

Investigators received the preliminary results of the autopsy report and have ruled this case a homicide. Medical examiners confirmed Hamby died from a single gunshot wound to the head.

The investigation is ongoing.
