Hundreds came out to the Brazos Center Wednesday to enjoy a free meal all for a good cause.

The Brazos Valley Food Bank hosted its 20th annual Feast of Caring, a fundraiser to raise awareness about the serious issues of hunger.

People ate a simple free meal of rice, beans, salad and sausage.

The only request? Those who ate at today's lunch donate the money they would have spent eating out to the food bank.

"It's a community problem and it's going to take a community solution and everybody has to do their part so coming here and giving a dollar, giving five dollars really helps our mission," said executive director of the food bank, Theresa Mangapora.

We're told a little more than $39,000 was raised as well as an additional $3,000 was donated to the food bank's capital campaign warehouse expansion project.
