CALDWELL, Tx (KYLE) — Take a drive down Main Street in Caldwell and you'll feel as if you've stepped back in time.
And it's that small-town feel and old-time charm that attracted Jeanie Price to open up her business here 15 years ago.
"I knew people would come to a place like this and we have people come as far away as Conroe and Houston," Price said. "I believe the town itself can be the same, it can be a destination."
A destination Price wants others to know about so she and some other community members formed the Downtown Caldwell Group.
Now they're trying to become a part of the Texas Historical Commissions' Main Street Program.
"It gives you the support that you need to have an organized plan on how to improve our town and that's something we don't have now," said Price.
Price tells us they've already received over 100 support letters and Doug Box is one of them..
"I think that having the downtown spruced up and have sort of a theme will just bring other people here from all walks of life."
If chosen Price says Caldwell will benefit in more ways than one.
"It will help preserve our history while helping to grow our town and to focus on the downtown," Price said.
Revitalizing downtown Caldwell so it's a place people will want to visit.
The Historical Commission is expected to pick the three finalist in October.
