Today, many of you are busy tearing through layers of wrapping paper, boxes, and bags to get to your presents but, before you throw out that decorative paper, you should consider recycling.

City officials are asking you to be eco-friendly this holiday season and remember to recycle. Each year, Americans reportedly throw out about 25 million tons of trash just between the Thanksgiving to New Year's holiday season alone.

"Recycling is just being a steward of your resources, and to reuse them is just a prudent thing to do," said Belton City Spokesman Paul Romer.

Also, don't just throw out the Christmas tree, as they are highly flammable. They too can be recycled. Just contact your city to find out where to properly dispose of all your unwanted items.
