COLLEGE STATION, Tx (KYLE) — Change is coming to the College Station Fire Department and it comes in the form of new leadership.
On Tuesday, College Station's City Manager, Kelly Templin, appointed Eric Hurt, a 32-year veteran of the department to the post.
"It's truly an honor to be picked to lead the College Station Fire Department," Hurt says.
It's a change that isn't all too unfamiliar for Chief Hurt; since June he's been filling in as interim chief and now that the title is official, Chief Hurt says he's excited to bring his years of experience and inside knowledge of the department to the table.
"There is an advantage to that because I've had the opportunity to see the full gambit of what the fire department does so while you're looking at the big picture of the services the organization provides, you have all the pieces to the puzzle."
And while Chief Hurt is still trying to settle into his new, permanent position with the department, he says he's wasting no time looking ahead toward the future as College Station continues to grow.
"One of our main goals is keeping up the services, keeping up the level of services, being able to meet the response time for a growing community," Hurt said. "As the population increases, the size of the fire department has to increase and of course we'll be looking at innovative ways to try and provide a higher level of service with new technology."
