Waco, Tx — Some West ISD students have now been attending classes in Connally ISD for a week, and we're told the transition has been seamless.
Banners and an outpouring of support have welcomed the students into their building next to Connally ISD's school campuses. About 550 junior high and high school students, along with more than a couple dozen of their teachers are finishing the school year in a vacant building that Connally ISD owns but is now allowing West ISD to utilize it.
When the students from West arrived on Monday, Connally students wore red to welcome them.
"It was amazing to see these kids get off the bus Monday morning and have smiles on their faces and get back to a group, being students again. It was really really neat, very important for them," said Wesley Holt, Public Information Officer for Connally ISD.
Before the students from West arrived on Monday, Connally ISD students spent hours helping to decorate, paint walls, move furniture, and more inside of the building being used for West students. Numerous other local school districts donated school supplies and furniture to help ease the transition.
