Copperas Cove, TX — A Coryell County Grand Jury cleared a Copperas Cove police officer of any wrong-doing following a February 2 shooting that left a 24-year-old man dead.
According to police, on February 2, around 6:15 p.m., the officer involved shooting occurred in the 500 block of Westview Lane in Copperas Cove. The officer was reportedly responding to a domestic violence call.
After the shooting, an investigation was conducted by the Department of Public Safety and the Texas Rangers.
The case was presented to a grand jury on May 28 by District Attorney Dusty Boyd, after the Texas Rangers concluded their investigation. The findings were presented as an advisory case, and the Grand Jury informed DA Boyd that they found no wrong doing and declined to take any further action against the officer involved, Officer Billy Ray.
An administrative investigation was also conducted by the Copperas Cove Police Department, and Officer Ray has been cleared to return to full duty status.
