BRYAN, Tx (KYLE) — While many will be celebrating Easter this weekend, the Burton-Cooks family is just thankful to be alive.
"I said you can get another house but you can't replace a body if it gets burned up in their," said Ora Irvin.
Deborah Cooks tells us she normally comes by her mother Amanda Burton's house on Fridays to check on her but something told her Thursday she needed to go a day early.
"I heard the sound of the electrical box crackling so I asked momma what was that and she said it was coming from the box so I went in to see and the whole wall was already on fire."
A change in Deborah's routine that saved her mother's life but she isn't taking the credit.
"God did. I have no doubt about it," Cooks said. "He spoke to me and told me to come out here and I was just being obedient and following that voice that spoke to me and he was the one that saved her, He did it."
Just two weeks ago Deborah had a premonition about her parent's house burning down. Another example she says of her faith at work.
"Lets me know even more that He did rise, so I'm so glad I serve a God like that."
The house is a total loss but Deborah says that won't damper their Easter holiday weekend because they have the best gift of all: each other.
