Demolition has begun in West for some of the homes destroyed by the April 18 West Fertilizer Plant Explosion.

The First Baptist Church in West has compiled a list of 50 homes slated to be demolished within the next month. The church has partnered with Texas Baptist Men and Christian Aid Ministries to help complete the work. RDO Equipment company in Hewitt has donated equipment for the demolition. Altogether, the cost of the work runs about $4,000 per home, which is a total cost of around $200,000. However, with the partnership and the commitment to getting the town of West back on its feet, the work won't cost homeowners anything.

“The church is here to serve our community. And we feel this is one of the best ways to serve our community, the biggest need right now,” said Phil Immicke, Associate Pastor of First Baptist Church.

Typically, demolition of homes costs $15,000 to $20,000 per home. The process to tear down these homes started on Tuesday and should continue for about a month.
