Jefferson County (KBMT) -- Jefferson County Sheriff's Deputies are investigating a shooting that happened at a home located at 15600 Heckaman Loop in Hamshire.

Deputy Rod Carroll told 12News the shooting was reported around 11 a.m. He said a man told investigators that his neighbor walked to his house and asked if he could watch the kids because he had just shot his wife. He said his neighbor then fled the scene.

Officers were able to arrest the alleged shooter at the intersection of Interstate 10 and Hamshire Road.

Chief Justin Chesson of the Hamshire Volunteer Fire Department spoke with 12News by phone. He said his department responded to the shooting, but did not treat anyone because the person who had been shot was already dead when they arrived.

The name of the accused shooter and the deceased has not yet been released.
