DPS troopers to be offered 9MM handguns in 2014
Waco, TX — Troopers for the Texas Department of Public Safety will be getting new guns come 2014, or at least they will have the option.
Officers right now carry .357 Sig Sauer pistols.
A trooper with the department today confirmed they will be given the choice to switch to the Smith and Wesson M&P 9MM handgun in January.
Trooper hopefuls in the future will also train with the 9MM version.
Gun experts say the Smith and Wesson is lighter, can carry more ammo than the .357, and also has less recoil.
