Early morning highway crash leaves one man dead

DPS confirmed one man is dead and another was taken to the hospital after an early morning highway crash.

According to Senior DPS Trooper Harpin Meyers, The accident happened around 5:15 a.m on FM 116, seven miles north of Copperas Cove. A 2006, Saturn vehicle traveling northbound attempted to pass another northbound car when it swerved and lost control. The vehicle hit a car traveling southbound head-on.

The driver of the vehicle, Juston Wittig, was pronounced dead on the scene.The 32-year-old, Killeen resident, was on his way to work at the Texas Department of Criminal Justice just before the crash.

The driver of the southbound vehicle, David Lohman Jr., was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
