Waco, TX — Waco Police are once again warning citizens of a scam that leaves the gullible with potential losses in the thousands of dollars.
On Friday, two men approached a 73-old-man about a charity for an African mission church.
The two were able to convince the older man to front them a large sum of money, which he did after visiting an ATM .
The man was told he would receive an even larger amount of cash in return later in time.
The man handed over the cash and the two were never heard from again.
It’s a scam Waco Police has seen multiple times in the past year, and they say it's not just the elderly that are targeted.
“It doesn’t happen to just elderly folks," said Sgt. Patrick Swanton of Waco PD. "We’ve had this happen to younger people- people you think would be on to this and wouldn’t fall for it, but it can happen to anybody.”
Waco Police say researching the charity or organization before handing over any money is essential.
And if you ever have any questions, call the BBB or local police for help.
