WACO -- There's no escaping the August heat or your energy bill.
ERCOT announced record breaking energy usage Tuesday with 65,790 Mega Watts.
"We have generation capacity of about 72,000 megawatts within ERCOT. So we had enough electricity to get us there, but if something breaks....," Walt Fenoglio, CFO of Texas Energy Aggregation said.
ERCOT won't have enough electricity to power the city.
Like we hear every year, comes the plea to conserve.
But how do you do it without melting in your own home?
Just remember a few small tips, like don't stand with the fridge open, close your shades and blinds and wait to dry your clothes after peak hours which are between 3 and 7 pm.
To more drastic changes:
"You want to make sure that you have a good energy contract with a competitive retail electric provider," Fenoglio said.
Not sure if your current rate is up to standard?
"Today in the market place where we are, a good competitive residential rate would be somewhere between 8 and 9 cents."
While there's money to be saved, conserving now is helping us avoid a worst case scenario.
"We're likely to experience brown outs like we did last year as well."
