BRYAN -- A fire rips through a Bryan home Wednesday night destroying it in a matter of minutes.
Lauren Holman was there at the scene and spoke with the property owners who tell us the situation could have been much worse.
It's a nightmare for any homeowner as Wendy Winkler stares in disbelief at what's left of her mother's house.
"I saw it, started screaming, couldn't even drive," said Winkler. "I pulled in and my husband came up and I just couldn't believe my mom's house was on fire."
A fire, that destroyed the home off Enloe Drive near Lake Bryan in just a matter of minutes.
Lt. Will Maddux with Brazos County Precinct 4 said, "The first unit arrived and the house was already full involved."
Five fire departments battled the blaze to get it under control and while the house is a loss, Winkler said she's just grateful her mother was out of town when it happened because she's not sure what the outcome would have been if she were home at the time.
"Oh my God, I prayed to the lord," said Winkler. "Woo-hoo, thank you because you know material things can be replaced. I'm just grateful she's ok and wasn't in the house."
Winkler's mother, who is handicapped, has been out of town visiting her daughter in Louisiana.
She was due to return home tomorrow and while she doesn't have a house to come back to Winkler said at least she's alive.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
