BRYAN -- A Bryan neighborhood is in shock tonight after learning that a man who lived right around the corner has been arrested on a capital murder charge for allegedly killing his 2-month-old daughter back in December.
Judy Hodges has lived in her west Bryan home for her entire life.
She says she's seen the neighborhood go from good to bad over the years but she never imagined she'd be living right next door to a registered sex offender and a man accused of capital murder.
"Nothing like this has ever happened before in the neighborhood," Hodges said.
But that all changed Wednesday when 30-year-old Shawn Baxter was arrested at his home off Tatum Drive for a murder warrant out of Pasco County, Florida.
"Pasco County Sheriff's Department called us asking for agency assist so we responded to that assist and ended up arresting Shawn Baxter for a capital murder warrant," said Officer Jon Agnew.
The Pasco County Sheriff's Office tells us autopsy results showed Baxter's two-month-old daughter, Katie, died from a blunt force trauma to the head.
An injury she received back in December at her Spring Hill, Florida home.
"I was real shocked when I heard about it," said Hodges. "I seen all the crews coming out and I was wondering what happened you know so then when I found out, I was just really shocked."
Baxter is in the Brazos County Jail without bail and authorities out of Pasco County say they're trying to get him extradited back to Florida as soon as possible.
