WACO -- This afternoon a former Baylor basketball player appeared in federal court in Waco on charges of extortion.

Richard Hurd was arrested Friday by the FBI and he's charged in an alleged attempt to extort Heisman Trophy winner Robert Griffin III.

Authorities however are not releasing why or how Hurd was planning to extort RG3.

Hurd played for the Bears between 2004 and 2008.
