A former Central Texas mayor has been sentenced to 60 years in prison for child sexual abuse.

Ex-Nolanville Mayor Charlie Lee Stewart, 59, was convicted in Belton on October 2, 2013, of continuously sexually assaulting a 12-year-old girl in 2011.

Stewart was arrested in July 2012 after hospital officials notified law enforcement of the abuse victim.

The lawyer for Stewart says he will appeal the sentence and conviction.
