Former Nolanville mayor indicted on aggravated sexual assault charge
A grand jury in Bell County has handed down an indictment for an aggravated sexual assault of a child charge against former Nolanville mayor Charlie Lee Stewart Sr.
Stewart, 58, was arrested on July 20, following an investigation that began on June 28 when officials at Scott and White Hospital contacted police. They informed authorities that victim told her mother and a forensic interviewer that Stewart had sexualy assaulted her several times, starting in the summer of 2011. The victim was 12 when the alleged sexual acts took place.
Stewart resigned from his position at Kileen ISD on July 30. In September, Stewart was forced off of the city council for missing three consecutive regularly scheduled council meetings.
Stewart remains in the Bell County Jail on a half-million dollar bond.
