Fort Hood opens new multi-million dollar stadium

Friday, October 19, 2012 - 1:53pm

Harker Heights and Shoemaker High School are the first two teams to play in the new Hood Stadium.

A ribbon cutting ceremony held Friday morning on the army base officially welcomed the public to the 13.5 million dollar facility. The new stadium replaces the original Hood Stadium built in 1951. At full capacity, the stadium seats 5,500 with a parking lot with spaces for up to 1,000 vehicles.

The stadium has been made possible through a partnership with Fort Hood and Killeen ISD.

“We kind of set our goal on trying to play football here this fall, about six months ago, and we formed a partnership with Killeen Independent School District. And, to get it completed just so we could play football here tonight was a big challenge to be honest,” said Brian Dosa, Director of Public Works for Fort Hood.

There are also plans to build a stage for entertainment venues, a pavilion, and a softball complex in the future.
