Sidewalk upgrades and safety improvements are in the works for four Bryan elementary schools.

The Bryan city council unanimously approved an $813,000 contract to improve pedestrian mobility and roadway signage at Bonham, Crockett, Johnson and Navarro elementary schools.

They'll receive 1.7 miles of upgrades including: solar powered flashing beacons and pedestrian crosswalk improvements with signs, pavement markings, and push button signals.

Construction is expected to begin in May and all improvements should be completed by 2014.
