Ft. Hood soldier killed in shooting

Killeen Police are investigating a shooting that happened in the 3600 block of Holbert Dr. on Thursday.

Officers received a 911 call at 10:54pm, the caller told them a shooting had just occurred in the 3600 block of Holbert Dr. Officers arrived to find several people at 3601 Holbert Dr. with two gunshot victims outside this residence.

The preliminary investigation revealed that the resident at 3601 Holbert Dr. was confronted by three males at his residence. A verbal altercation ensued which developed into a physical altercation when one of the males assaulted the resident. Shots were fired and two of the three males were shot. One victim, a 21 year old Fort Hood soldier was suffering from gunshot wounds to the upper torso; he was transported by ambulance to the Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center. He was subsequently transferred to Scott & White Memorial Hospital where he remains in stable condition. The other victim, Jamie Lee Schnider, a 22 year old Fort Hood soldier, was pronounced deceased by Justice of the Peace Garland Potvin at 11:37pm and ordered an autopsy to be performed at the Southwestern Institute of Forensic Sciences in Dallas. The resident was taken into custody by officers and transported to the Killeen City Jail.

Detectives continue to investigate this shooting and this case will be reviewed by the Bell County District Attorney’s Office later today. Information will be released as it becomes available.

The name of the resident has been withheld pending the return of the Bell County District Attorney’s office review.
