Gatesville woman indicted for Christmas donation scam

A Gatesville woman was indicted by a Coryell Country Grand Jury after collecting Christmas donations for needy children, then returning them.

Misty Dallas Barrow is charged with theft under $1,500.

Barrows is accused of scamming community members into giving donations for the Gatesville Christmas Help.

According to Gatesville Police Chief Nathan Gohlke, officers began investigating Barrow on December 31, after they received a complaint from a Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8230 representative. The man told police, Barrow had approached the organization asking for donations of clothes, money and toys for needy children. The organization gave donations to Barrows, then found out, she returned the donations.

According to police, Barrow returned the items at a local Walmart store. Police obtained a surveillance video that showed Barrow and a man accomplice exchanging the items for gift cards. Barrow was arrested by Gatesville police on Feb 11.

Police found she was convicted for two theft charges in the past.

The accomplice was charged with a Class B theft misdemeanor.
