Waco, TX — It took three weeks and five different matchups but the Vitek’s Gut Pak has been unofficially voted the best college dish in the country.
The dish is famous to Baylor and the city of Waco.
The meal became a staple to the family restaurant when I-35 construction workers in the 60’s simply didn’t have enough time to dine in.
The dish has been described as a frito pie on steroids.
Over the past month Baylor students and fellow Wacoans helped push it over the finishing line in the Cooking Channel's March Madness food tournament.
“We just had huge support. All this took everybody to win it, said Julie Vitek. It wasn’t just a title handed out to us It took everybody who supported the gut pak and viteks to win this.”
Owners of the BBQ joint are planning an appreciation day and even a Gut Pak parade.
