Hamilton police involved in shooting resulting in one man dead

On Friday afternoon, Hamilton County Sheriffs received a 911 call of an active shooter at The Book Trail store located at 2230 South Hwy 281.

A woman told police, her ex-husband came into the store and made a treating statement while pointing a pistol at her.The man then fired the pistol but it malfunctioned and the woman was able to run away. The man then took off in a 2014 red, Chevrolet pickup.

Deputies were able to locate the man and his pickup truck pulling out of a driveway. The man stepped out of his vehicle with a semi-automatic rifle. Police told the man to put the gun down, but the man then pointed the rifle at officers. A  three minute exchange of gunfire took place until the man was shot and fell to the ground. 

He was pronounced dead at the scene and no officers were injured. The Texas Rangers and DPS are now investigating the shooting.
