Construction on Highway 6 in Brazos County is ramping up and it could cause you delays.

This week TxDOT started phase three of a $9.6 million ramps improvement project that began last year.

For the next two months, weather permitted, the southbound exit ramps between William J. Bryan and Briarcrest will be shut down.

One lane of southbound Highway 6 will also be shut down for the safety of the workers.

It's all in an effort to improve overall safety by removing the standstill traffic from the highway to the frontage roads.

"That's not what we want because that's 75 mph traffic through there so what we're doing is trying to get the traffic to cue up or back up on the frontage road and that's the reason we're going in and redoing our entrance and exit ramps," said Bob Colwell with TxDOT.

In all there will be eight phases to the project. It's expected to wrap up by December 2014.
