Marlin, TX — A Houston-area man has been sentenced to 30 years in prison after being found guilty of shooting and killing an Otto man in May 2012.
The trial for Wesley Scott Murphy took place this week in Marlin.
Murphy, 42, was indicted on the capital murder charge last August. Opening arguments and testimony began in a Falls County courtroom on Wednesday. Although he was indicted for capital murder, he was found guilty of murder, which is a lesser charge.
According to police, the victim, Craig Holland, 50, was found dead in his home, around 3:30 a.m. May 24, 2012. Texas Rangers and the Department of Public Safety Crime Lab investigated Holland's death and determined it was a homicide.
Murphy turned himself in to Waco Police Department after the shooting.
Murphy will be eligible for parole in 14 years.
