Iola Volunteer Fire Department to recoup portion of embezzled funds

The Iola Volunteer Fire Department will receive a portion of the funds that were embezzled from 2010 to 2012 after their former secretary has accepted a plea deal.

Samantha Kimich has accepted a plea deal that along with 10 years of probation will require her to pay pack over $8,500.

Along with former fire chief Sword and his mother, they are believed to have taken an estimated $40,000 over the 2 year span.

Sword’s trial date has not yet been set.
