Kidnapping and police chase ends in suicide
BURLESON COUNTY, Tx (KYLE) — A kidnapping, man hunt and multi-county police chase ended early Wednesday morning when the suspect took his own life.
The Burleson County Sheriff's Office tells us it all began Tuesday evening around 5:00 when a 20-year-old woman was taken from her car and forced into another.
The victim's father called 911 to report the kidnapping after his daughter was able to get in touch with him by phone.
Multiple agencies began searching the area for the suspect's truck and found it several hours later in Brazos County on FM 50.
We're told a police chase then ensued and spike strips were deployed near Cooks Point to slow the vehicle down but the suspect refused to stop. Sheriff Dale Stroud tells us the suspect actually called 911 dispatch and told them he wasn't going to stop until he took the victim home.
Somehow the woman managed to open the car door and jump out as it was moving.
The sheriff says the kidnapper then took his own life with a shotgun he had in the car.
"Anytime you lose a life, it's not the outcome we wanted, no matter who that is," Sheriff Stroud said. "However if you get your victim home safely like we did, you know, that was our main concern at that time."
The motive for the kidnapping is unclear but the sheriff tells us the two have had a lengthy dating history together.
The names of everyone involved have not been released yet.
