The Killeen Police Department and Bell County CrimeStoppers are teaming up to encourage citizens to register their big-money gifts this holiday season.

The two will be manning a mobile trailer at popular shopping spots in and around Killeen all week.

Once somebody makes a big purchase inside, they can then go outside to the trailer and register serial numbers with Leads Online.

If anybody were to steal your holiday gifts and try to pawn them off, the product’s serial number would trigger within the national database.

Carroll Smith of Killeen PD said the program not only helps solve theft cases, but helps with personal insurance claims as well.

“A lot of people think nothing’s ever going to happen to them, but you never know. You never know when a fire could happen. All of this also helps insurance companies and we have a lot of them onboard with the program too. It helps them, and helps you identify what you did have," said Smith.
