COLLEGE STATION -- Today was a day to honor law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty.
The College Station Police Department, Bryan P.D., Texas A&M University P.D., as well as the Brazos County Sheriff's Office took time recognize the 163 men and women nationwide who died while protecting their local communities during today's memorial service.
The flag was lowered to half staff and an honor guard shot off three shots for the fallen officers.
"I think it's important for people to come back and just take it all in, the emotions that come with a memorial such as this and to really realize that it is really important the sacrifices that we make," said Neal Spencer, a College Station police recruit.
Just last year 12 Texas officers were killed while in the line of duty.
Today's service was held in conjunction with the National Law Enforcement Memorial Week.
