Just 10 days after starting the job as the police chief of a Central Texas town, Mike Lugo is stepping down.

Lugo resigned as Little River Academy's police chief Wednesday night.

The city council voted Lugo into the position on July 14, about a month after the former chief, Lee Dixon, was gunned down while on duty. Prior to accepting the position, Lugo worked as the town's reserve officer for two years.
