Louder, longer tests coming to McGregor SpaceX facility

Wednesday, September 4, 2013 - 4:06pm

SpaceX is warning McGregor residents of looming tests that should be louder and longer than usual.

Officials with the private space exploration company said the tests could come as early as Wednesday night.

SpaceX, whose testing facility is in McGregor, has been working on the Merlin 1D rocket engine that powers the Grasshopper reusable rocket prototype.

If and when completed, the Grasshopper will be the world’s first reusable rocket which should significantly reduce overall costs for SpaceX and companies like it.
