BRYAN, Tx (KYLE) — After saying goodbye one final time Lt. Greg Pickard was laid to rest in the Aggie Field of Honor Friday afternoon just one week after the deadly fire that claimed his life and the life of Lt. Wallace.
Lt. Todd Mack, one of Lt. Pickard's closest friends, says everyone saw him as a father-figure.
"Everybody respected Greg," said Mack. "He loved fighting fire. That's why he moved back to the Lt. spot so he could get back on the engine and fight fires."
Hundreds of firefighters, law enforcement and EMS personnel attended Pickard's funeral at the Central Baptist Church in Bryan to pay their final respects.
"If they [Lt. Pickard and Lt. Wallace] were here they would probably just give us a little punch in the arm or something and tell a joke and say, 'Come on guys, you gotta keep going on with your life and making these calls.' That's what they would have wanted," said Mack.
After the hour and a half service, Lt. Pickard's casket was loaded onto his fire engine for one last time -- an emotional farewell to a man so many loved and cherished.
"They'll never be forgotten."
