Man arrested for 2013 murder in Waco
Waco , TX — Authorities have arrested a man they say is responsible for killing another man during a drug deal gone bad in October 2013.
Danny Lee Byrd, 23, was arrested Monday afternoon by the U.S. Marshal Task Force in the 1900 block of Reuter. Byrd was wanted on a capital murder warrant that was obtained by the Special Crimes Unit of Waco Police Department.
According to police, around 9:30 pm. on Saturday, October 26, 2013, Waco police were called to a shooting at Lafayette Apartments, located in the 2500 block of Ethel Street. On arrival, they found Leslie David Lee, 44, of Purmela, Texas dead from several gunshot wounds.
Investigation revealed that Lee and a female acquaintance went to the apartments to complete a drug deal they had arranged. As Lee and the woman were in the process of the deal, they were approached by two black males, who were armed with handguns. It is believed that the black males were robbing Lee and the woman for the drugs.
During the robbery, Lee is believed to have man an attempt to draw his handgun he was carrying and was shot several times in the neck and face. The suspects then left the scene. The woman that was with Lee was not injured during the robbery.
Lee was pronounced dead at the scene by Justice of the Peace, DeCluitt, Lee's body was sent to Dallas for an autopsy.
Byrd has been booked into the McLennan County Jail. The case is still under investigation, and no additional information is expected to be released at this time.
