Man arrested in connection with Thursday morning Temple shooting

Temple, Texas (KWKT) — A man matching the description in last nights Temple shooting was arrested yesterday.
Simon Blanco was taken into custody by McGregor police around 11:40 p.m. after they responded to a report of a suspicious person walking down Hwy 317.
Officers saw that Blanco had an outstanding warrant for criminal trespass out of Bell County. According to McGregor Investigator Joe Coy, Blanco admitted to using meth throughout the day. Officers then found Blanco had tossed 30 grams of meth and 14 grams of cocaine in a ditch. Blanco made incriminating statements during the arrest telling officers that he had shot his girlfriend earlier.
An arrest warrant was issued Friday charging the 38 year-old with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
Blanco is currently at McLennan County Jail and charged with possession of a controlled substance and criminal trespass.
Thursday's shooting happened in the 600 block of S.4th street shortly after 3:30 a.m. A woman was taken to the hospital with a single gun shot wound and is in critical condition.
Blanco's bond had been set at $1 million dollars.
