WACO -- A man ran out of gas in Waco, was asked for money and was then stabbed.

But we're told he didn't want police to know about it.

It happened around 11:30 last night when 45-year-old Phillip Edwards claims he ran out of gas on the 900 block of Austin Avenue.

A white car pulled up behind him and an unknown young black man asked him for money.

"The victim said he didn't have any and the next thing he knew he got stabbed in the shoulder by this young black male," Sgt. Patrick Swanton, Waco Police Department said.

The suspect then took off from the scene in his car.

But a witness saw Edwards bleeding and called 911.

Edwards then left and went to the 1100 block of Franklin..
where police found him.

But police tell us he initially did not want to report anything.
