Mart, TX — A Central Texas couple has built an extraordinary house on their property just outside of Mart. Tomorrow, a new cable series will air documenting the process of building it.
Sandy and Jim Maddox’s homestead dates back five generations.
“The property was in my mother’s family," said Sandy. "It’s been in the family for a long period of time. More than a 100 years.”
A few years ago, they decided to build a second home on the land. But they didn't want anything typical.
Sandy began researching treehouses. A quick online searh led her to treehouse guru Pete Nelson.
The Maddox family reached out to Nelson and began brainstorming. After months or preperation, the build began. The house waas complete in May.
The house sits on a cluster of hackberry trees and consists of a bedroom, bathroom, upstairs loft, kitchen, dining area and anything else a typical home would have.
Nelson is now the subject of a new series on Animal Planet called “Treehouse Masters.”
The series premiers on Friday and the first show highlights the building of the Maddox’s Texas-sized treehouse.
“It really worked out well because they were really craftsmen. That’s the beauty of what you will see in the show," said Jim.
And for Sandy, whose grandparents home was once feet from where the treehouse rests, the new addition is not only for her current family, but for the next five generations as well.
“It’s a place we can come home to and feel like we really belong," said Sandy. "It’s a set of roots if you wanna be technical."
