Residents of McLennan County could see a roughly 5% property tax increase if the commissioner’s court approves the measure later this month.

The court passed a preliminary tax increase by a vote of 3-2 on Tuesday.

The county has had trouble balancing the budget lately and some think more incoming revenue is the key to get a hold of it.

Others think spending cuts are needed before burdening homeowners.

The proposed tax, along with the 2014 budget, will be voted on August 30.
