WACO -- It was a tight race in the McLennan County Sheriff primary all the way to the end.

Parnell McNamara barely beat out Chief Deputy Randy Plemons for the Republican nomination for McLennan County Sheriff.

McNamara won by 53 percent beating Plemons by a little over 1,600 votes.

McNamara  could replace Sheriff Larry Lynch who has been the McLennan County Sheriff for 12 years, but he still has to face Democratic candidate Willie Tompkins in November.
